I have heard recently there are game changes at chapter 6 when the "visiting races" come into play.
That goods production will stop having an influence on growth and that knowledge points will be what governs that.
Can anyone explain that please? How it works differently? and when does the change take effect, as soon as you enter chapter 6, or once you research dwarven portals, or once you build them?

Game mechanics in terms of KP and goods production in Chapters 1 to 5 does not change come chapter 6+. What changes is the introduction of the guest race mechanic. Which means specialist goods relevant only to the chapter you are in with Mana and Orcs (the resource) as the exception.

So in the case of chapter 6 copper and granite are the new resource that you need to unlock many technologies, you will still need coins/supplies and T1-3 goods as well. Due to the quantity of copper and granite needed in technologies and that you start each chapter without a stockpile of goods it is a strategic challenge to decide how to go about researching techs and upgrading guest race buildings.
