This suggestion has been made many times, and the developers have stated time and again that it will not be done. This game is designed so that lack of storage is part of the challenge.

This. The devs have stated over and over again that they will not add a storage option and they will also not add a building rotation option. Either, or both, defeat part of the challenge intentionally planned into the game.

Considering that buying expansions is a revenue source for them I doubt they're ever going to nerf their income by making it less useful.
