Ohhh tough call now... I was losing interest but it seems we have 1 for and 1 against.... I'm sure Helya is ready for us to stop though so she's the tie-breaker.

I'm done with this one. Have a good night Dewwy. No hard feelings, eh?

Edit: Oops almost missed a golden opportunity to tie this all back into the OP's question:
I will now cater to Henroo's request and stop fighting! Boom! on-topic and bloody brilliant.

@nativedeer Experiment and find your own balance for what works best for you. I have two "figther cities" (ch 15 and 16) with 10k tournament points but I cater the nasty fights with bad enemy compositions (where I would lose a lot of troops, if I can even win). On the other hand there are easy compositions that you almost always want to fight (because you will have almost no losses). Imo that is the better way to decide if you want to fight or cater an encounter than to split in tournament and spire or something like that.

I fight everything that I can.

I have yet to build an AW that isn't fighting orientated.

I do cater once in a blue moon. In last week's spire I actually had to surrender in the 3rd was of the boss encounter on floor 3 of the Spire. For whatever reason the troop combination was just too tough. It was the first time I ever had to surrender in the 3rd wave.

I ended up catering that battle. I have resources to burn. However, I try not to cater anything that ever requires tools as I need those for troop production.

Like yourself I am a fighter and have a heavy selection of military AWs. But I think you are missing out if you pass on Golden Abyss and Prosperity Towers. Neither are combat oriented, but they are just so good they help almost any city. GA is the single best source of both population and gold on a square for square basis in the game. PT gives you supplies every 3 hours and also makes Power of Prosperity spells both longer lasting and more powerful. And if you are a heavy fighter and are training lots of troops, supplies can be an issue. Especially in the middle chapters.

Fight tournament, cater Spire...

Spire costs with troops is just way too stupidly high in Ch9, plus most/all of my specialist troops are still 1* and get spanked hard by the enemy always being 3*. I am strictly a pure auto-battle fiend, simply because I hate how god awful maual fighting is in this game...
Now, as things eventually (and very slowly!) advance in tech, more and more fighting can come into play, since eventually catering becomes too costly.

I just really wish that fighting didn't absolutely require Fire Chicken + 1x each boost building just to stand a decent chance at winning... some more event buildings that give out permanent boosts, instead of being forced to rely on the crafting RNG would be wonderful.;)

I passed on them because I don't have the KP to upgrade more than the AW I currently have (3), and I almost never use PP spells. I have over 300 of them.

If at some point if I decide I have some KP to burn on the GA or PT I might take a second look, but for now they are unnecessary.

I have yet to ever feed my Brown Bear. If at some point I start to feed my Brown Bear then tools might become more of necessity and then I will have to consider the PT.

PT combos well with Brown Bear. Essentially, feed BB. Then use a lot of time boosts to make troops with. Use PoP spells to recover the supplies you just used time boosting troops. The bonus from PT really shines in this situation!

That makes sense, but so far my troop numbers only grow, and I have no reason to use the BB or time boosts, or PP spells. Maybe if I start to do more than 5,500 points in a tournament then that will be necessary... but half way through chapter Orcs and none of those are necessary.

For now I save those resources for when they are needed.

I really think you have to be good at both, catering and fighting. I don't think I could produce enough trrops to fight only or enough goods to cater only. On weeks that I expend a lot of trrops the next week I can rely more on catering to replenish the troops and visa versa. I do have a Fire Phoenix and a Brown Bear, both fully upgraded, but I still find having the flexibility to cater and fight equally well a God Send! I am not constantly scrambling to gather Troops OR Goods, it just flows. I fight the fights I think are good fights and cater the ones I don't think are good fights and I have enough of both to alleviate the stress of scrambling to recoup only trrops or only goods.

The poblem for me is that I want to be a fighter, but I also want pretty, so I hope that I can have less manufacturies, have a nice collection of pretty culture/pop/goods buildings, and have an army that will eliminate the need for catering.
I do find it unfortunate how the Elvenar team works so hard on game art, and then completely discourages the use of the nicest looking buildings by forcing players into maximum efficiency. Players need to have more freedom to build their cities how they want, not just the way Inno thinks they should.

Unfortunately, you have to make a choice...Lean and Mean or Pretty, there is no both in that area. If you want to hit Spire and Tournament hard then it is Lean and Mean. If you just want to play "casually" then you can go "Pretty". There isn't enough land space to do both.

To train enough troops for an all out fighting strategy, all you really need to do is to keep your Barracks, Training Ground, and Mercenary Camp at max level. And make sure you have a long enough training time that they never go idle between your log-ins. Dwarven Bulwark and/or Shrine of Shrooms is pretty much necessary to do this. I don't think it is possible to get enough training time from armories alone to keep max level military buildings training troops non-stop. The speed boosts from Needles, Victory Springs, and Flying Academy can also help you keep up with troop production. But to take full advantage of the speed boost these provide, you need the training time.
