I think of myself as a fighter and I have a GA and a Mountain Halls in my cities. If I listened to the experts here and on other Forums in every regard I wouldn't know if I was coming or going.

At every level there are some Wonders that are better than others. Plunk them down, put a level or two on them, keep them or sell them, it's your city. I've had some briefly and sold them - Thrones of the HighMen and Enar's Giant Boat Anchor - seriously?? Who needs broken rune shards that badly? I could never harvest the darn thing, as far as mana, maybe craft a couple more Festival Merchants.

If my FS or anyone ever told me how to think, how to speak or how to play, I would drop/block them so fast, they wouldn't know what hit them. You want to tell me what I can or can't do? .....

Not interested. Next.

Right there with you! This was the last straw that prompted me to leave top FS after a long while being there. Nobody, and I literally mean Nobody, can tell me how my money is going to be spent. I have spent a fortune in time & money on this game so having anybody dictating to me is not happening! I also won't be gagged. I thought it was ludicrous to be told to only say good things about the spire when I am not a fan of the Spire. Oh Well! Turned out to be a favor. I'm still loving the move to my smaller FS where players can grow their cities any way they want to :p

I am pretty sure the brains around here about this kind of stuff, @MinMax Gamer and @SoggyShorts , have said the mountain halls is not worth building.

I would have to disagree! My GA is giving me 120,000 population and since I negotiate the Spire the coin is welcome. My MH is also giving me 120,000 population and an added 160% manufacturing. Frankly, I would feel stupid if I hadn't built them. I mean regular base population for a magic residence is 15,900. For population I would definitely choose my Mountain Halls

Right, but those brains walked away at the title! For a catering city the mountain halls is on the must have list.

Way below the GA ;)
lol ~ absolutely agree! On this particular thread  and for people for whom this pertains, MH is the #1 AW to have! Guess what you use most if you negotiate everything? GOODS. Then coins/supplies. My GA & MH are the backbone of my survival here in Elfland.

The goods boost from the mountain hall is garbage. The percent it adds is deceptive. If it says 200% bonus, the first 100% is your base production, so it is really only adding 100%. Next, that 100% is added to your relic boost bonus, which mean you are getting 100% extra of your base, not 100% extra of that 700% relic boost. For more random numbers, say your boosted 3-hour production with the max 700% is 4000, which makes your base production before the boost at 500, that actual 100% extra from the MH is giving you only 500 extra goods. And the fewer the normal factories you have out, the more useless it becomes. Building it for pop is okay, but building it for the goods bonus will always be a waste.

This is 100% true for a combat player. I fight almost every encounter so I have tons of goods. I considered getting rid of Mountain Halls, but eventually decided that the pop per square was good enough to keep it. But I expect it might be different for a cater based player. They are going to use a lot more goods than a combat based player. They are also likely to have a greater number of manufactories. I would put Mountain Halls solidly in the "must have" category for a cater player and in the "maybe" category for a combat player.

Exactly this! I have 17 manufactories in my main city. The mountain hall boost seems like garbage until you multiply it across all manufactories for each p/u. Still the population boost is way better, once I plant it and upgrade it I will be able to put in more manufactories!

And you are in what, chapter 6 or 7? When you get to chapter 12+ and you have to dump a bunch of normal factories to make room for sentient goods factories, which the mountain hall does not boost, you will find you will have to do some major reworking of your city. So enjoy life while your city is small and life is simple.

In chapter 12 it will still provide enough population to replace 10 houses....nice sentient space! Besides, I am moving slowly, I have months and months before chapter 12 is a me problem. And I have no doubt the extra 100s of thousands of goods the mountain halls gives me between now and then will be useful.

Reworking is part of the fun and I will thoroughly enjoy my little catering city for as long as possible.

But a purely cater chapter 12+ city is still going to have more manufactories than a chapter 12+ military city, so Mountain Halls will still be more valuable for them. I just went to my ch13 military based city and counted up all of the squares devoted to pure military stuff such as: barracks, training grounds, mercenary camp, armories, and pure military ancient wonders. Total square count was 243. Nearly 10 full expansions. This is a direct total, it does not take into account the population required to man the armories, MC, TG, and barracks. I also did NOT include Dragon Abbey (20 squares) in the total. Although it gives mage units a damage bonus, I don't regard it as a pure military AW because it makes mana. I am not sure what a high level cater city would look like. But I am fairly certain some of this space would be be devoted to producing goods.
