Catering/Negotiating Only Cities.

I am very afraid of sentient goods. My city will be good through halflings thanks to MA buildings and my slow pace event building collection!

I do not understand sentient goods. It is one of those things I am going to have to see to get...You need T1 goods to make sentient goods....So do you have to keep making and trading t1s to make sentient goods? Or do the sentient factories do some kindof all in 1 production just add seeds?

And you are in what, chapter 6 or 7? When you get to chapter 12+ and you have to dump a bunch of normal factories to make room for sentient goods factories, which the mountain hall does not boost, you will find you will have to do some major reworking of your city. So enjoy life while your city is small and life is simple.

That sounds pretty condescending IMO. That would be like me saying "And you are what, 1 million ranking points?" I'm done chapter 17, have 2.1 million ranking points and several factories stored because I wanted to use 20 expansion space where guest race was for culture & event buildings I like. I have 2 of each sentient good out for upgrading T3 and negotiating the spire. At the same time I have every AW except the new chapter 17 ones. So go ahead & tell me that when I grow & know what I'm doing I won't want my Mountain Hall. I need all the population I can get if I decide to put out all my manufacturing. So please do tell what is better for 120,000 pop. Whatever the net production boost is, how is any amount not a plus? I really don't want to play the game while picking apart every nice thing in it. I do have a couple of AW that could go but MH is not one of them!

I don't compare things to all-blue, big money cities, because the average normal city will never be like that or have the same things.

But a purely cater chapter 12+ city is still going to have more manufactories than a chapter 12+ military city, so Mountain Halls will still be more valuable for them.

Which is why I made sure to point out that the Mountain Halls does nothing for sentient goods. Getting rid of half your normal production for sentient production makes the Halls goods boost even less useful.

If the free Mountain Halls AW is still an asset to an "all-blue, big money" city then it should be even more an asset to a city that hasn't spent on all the perks in the game. The needs are the same for manufacturing, quests, events, etc. Pretty pathetic response if you ask me! Sheesh! Insinuating someone doesn't know the game because they spent more $ on it over the years. Too funny!

Every single manufactory which is level 24 or higher is capable of making sentient goods, no matter what. However, your boost for sentient goods is not going to be the same as your standard boost. For example in my Khel city I am Marble boosted. This means that my sentient good boost is Platinum, which is made in high level Steel manufactories.

Trying to make sentient goods in non-boosted manufactories is just as inefficient as trying to make regular goods in non-boosted manufactories. I would not worry about sentient goods until you get near the end of Halflings: what I did was start building and upgrading a steel manufactory 2 or 3 weeks before the end of the chapter. It was ready in plenty of time. The good news is that as I fighting player I can get by with a single tier1 sentient good manufactory. I DO keep an Magical Manufacturing enchantment on it most of the time. But I don't know what an advanced cater player would need in terms of sentient good production, because I don't play that style

Interesting silencing tactic. Super rude too.

Eh, there is a several years-long history on the forums between her and various posters. Some don't come here any more and some have put her on ignore. If something works for her, fine, but her way includes spending a lot of money on the game, so for the majority of players, her way won't work.

Weird flex & self justification. Money spent or not, 120K pop per GA & MH for a total of 240K is nothing to sneer at. How many residences is that anyway? Sometimes you can be cool & other times you are rude & condescending. I guess whatever floats your boat & helps you sleep at night.

And you need to build an entirely different AW to get the boost for sentient goods that the MH gives to normal goods. Mountain Halls does not give you any extra platinum, the Timewarp and Vortex of Storage do.

I never said anything bad about the Golden Abyss, so get your facts straight.

I am well aware of this and I never claimed that Mountain Halls would help with sentient good production. But I get the impression that like myself you are a combat player. But this thread is about catering based cities. My point was that a high level cater based city would have more area devoted to producing goods than a high level military city such as yours or mine. It has to be this way, since instead of using troops to solve encounters they are using goods to solve encounters. So even at higher levels: once sentient goods are introduced, a cater play style city is still going to have more standard good manufactories than a military oriented city. Therefore Mountain Halls will benefit this play style more than what it benefits a fighting play style.

I can only think of 2, maybe 3, people who I called on total BS. So if they left? GOOD! To the best of my knowledge, I was here long before you. I will note that I often go long periods of time just reading. I can't recall how many times people have pointed out that you seem to believe your way is the only "right way" to play the game. I'm sorry you don't have the same level of disposable income to spend on the game but I can assure you that many players do spend quite a bit. Many don't bother on the forum because of people like you who try to shame anybody with a blue city. Truth be told, Elvenar needs paying customers to pay their bills. They also need a huge number of free to play customers to keep the game interesting and well populated.

Now that you have hijacked the conversation, please do tell how the AW are so different for a free to play player vs a pay to play player. Since you know everything that should not be hard to explain. Please don't forget to include how applicable AW are a disadvantage when negotiating and/or catering since that is the subject of the discussion.

Adding: I know joined shows 2018 but that is because of mix up in the beginning due to Facebook vs direct. I didn't get that fixed for a couple of years. I have been here since at least early 2016

Agreed. Even Soggy did & he spoke on his behalf, when he first hijacked the thread & replied to me.

And there is the reason I respect Soggy ;) He shows respect for all play styles. Sure he has pointed out differences in blue cities vs other cities many times. He just doesn't do it in a condescending way. He took the time to actually look at more than blue roofs in my city at least once and pointed out that even though I want all AW (very early goal) I still have complete battle support, manufacturing support, etc. Soggy may at times point out differences but he has never acted like it is the wrong way to play the game either way. Big difference! It is the difference between "You might do better if..." compared to "You are doing it wrong if you don't do it MY way". I've always been grateful for Soggy's input

Never even imagined a cater only FS. I feel like i'm turning in to a weird haircut wimpy poodle just thinking about it.

ok... having overcome the near transformation in to being a poodle... i think a pure catering FS could work.

right (near perfect) boosted goods, and similar activity levels... maybe some decent neighbors.

some guy losing the farm in spire every week, eating up trades way more than his share... everyone yelling at him for it... seems like a fun drama FS actually...

(overcomes urge to become a weird haircut poodle and sticks to smashing elves and dogs over the head with my club in elvenar battles)

Thanks for bringing this thread back to point. It is stale at the moment, and I have nothing to add either at the moment, but it got very intense and derailed off topic for a bit there. Drama. Ugh. Back to cater-only etc... *thumbs up*

The real issue/s with the game are that Inno has fethed it up to the nines and there is NO balance anywhere now;
- Early game, especially Ch1-3, fighting is literally all but impossible to maintain due to both no-existent troop production capabilities + still unlocking the basic troops. Combined with the enemy having instant access to ALL their troops = player is screwed.
Thus, players are forcibly steered into a mostly catering play style.
Things get a bit more evened out in Ch's 4-5, but military is still iffy until the player can at least start unlocking their 3* barracks units in Ch6.

- Mid game becomes a total nightmare for anyone who invests meaningfully into AW's. Enjoy being screwed over by massive cater costs & unsustainable unit sizes in tournaments + spire...
Gets even worse in Ch9-11 once you add into high costs of Orks + mana, while still having only what's basically "baby's first ork/mana farms", unless you somehow managed to keep a stockpile of Mana Huts hidden away and/or can craft a sizable number of Ork Nests. (ie: at least 6-8+)
And by 'over-investing' in AW's, I'm talking like only 50-60 combined AW levels... Since you're basically forced to place expansions to maintain city productions, and avoiding research means never advancing, then the only thing you can 'sacrifice' are AW's, making them now more of a detriment than an actual boost to a city.

- Late game finally evens out somewhat, as troop productions can keep up with the sky-high costs of fighting, but catering becomes basically impossible to maintain as a play style since those costs keep inflating at an exponential rate.
Of course, this only lasts until the end of Ch15, since both Ch's 16 + 17 simply gank players with negative gains overall.

Basically, TL:DR - the devs are playing in a totally different reality from the rest of us, and have no clue what they're actually doing.
The whole combat system needs to be nuked from high orbit and entirely redesigned, while the formula used for calculating catering/battle costs was obviously made by someone who graduated from whatever the flying feth this "New Math" BS being taught in schools these days. :p
