4 Diploma T1 Recipe Design for Trader's Basic Goods
So you just completed your Cauldron Tech?? Yep, it's as complicated as it looks, but it's a very elegant design. You're encouraged to grab some popcorn and download a copy of the Google Sheet that we've developed, because insight is a wonderful thing.
Cauldrons 101 - N Diploma Recipe Design - Sheets - Katwick 2023B20 << Febuary 20th, but I like to keep my files orderly.

This downloadable Google Sheet works fine for the four adjacent Ingredients which contribute the Primary Values for each Effect, but there's more to it.

Each Brewery Ingredient is a 12 column vector. The Ingredients are STAGGERED and they wrap around ( column "13" wraps to column 1) .
  • 2 Negative Factors
  • 3 Positive Factors
  • 3 Negative Values
  • 4 Positive Values
-2f-2f1f1f2f-2v-1v-1v1v1v2v3v34_Ear_Truffle_is_the_only_Brewery_Ingredient_that_doesn't_wraparound
  • Positive Values are Contributions associated with each Ingredient. That's all we're considering at the moment, and they're all you need to worry about if you're just focusing the 4 Ingredients associated with a particular Effect. That's all our Google Sheet does at the moment, and there's a separate tab for each Diploma level, because the contributions for each level have been calculated by hand.
  • Negative Values are also Contributions, but they're further away from a particular Effect. We're working on a Google Sheet that includes the negative contributions, but what we're really after is a spreadsheet that has every Diploma Level on a single sheet, so that you can tell what adding a Diploma will do to your favorite recipe, with automatic contribution updates as youi add Ingredients, so that you can FOLLOW what's actually happening as you add Ingredients, and thereby develop some intuition for Recipe Design.
  • Positive and Negative Factors are the Ingredients don't influence YOU, or more to the point, don't influence YOUR primary Effect. Factors raise or lower the contribution of the Ingredients on the opposite side of the Ingredient circle, where your "blanks" are located.
    • I'm never going to worry about developing an Intuition for Factors. It's not going to happen.
    • I do, however, highly recommend the Excel Spreadsheet that Karvest has presented in the Beta Forum. It includes factoring, and focuses on recipe optimization
      • Start with a mix of Ingredients that you THINK is pretty good
      • Indicate any Ingredients that you want to avoid, because they cost Diamonds this week
      • Indicate how many Witch Points you can expend
      • Indicate your Diploma level
      • Indicate which Effects you're trying to optimize
      • Push the button
      • Wait while Excel does it's thing, and don't worry about exactly what's happening in the Black Box.
      • Drink up!

I've posted two similar recipes for each Cauldron Diploma level through level 12, for CLUSTERED INGREDIENTS ONLY
  1. A good recipe that uses 5+4+3+2=14 Ingredients
  2. An excellent recipe that uses 8+6+4+3=21 Ingredients
    • Each week four (random) Ingredients will cost 25 Diamonds each, if you're willing to spend a few Diamonds
      • 5+4+3+2 assumes 14 Witch Point Ingredients
      • 8+6+4+3 assumes 8*25=200 Diamond Ingredients plus 6+4+3=13 Witch Point Ingredients
    • In a later post we'll be discussing costs, but for now let's assume that you lucked out, and the BEST of your ingredients is "On Sale." At Diploma Level 10, because that's what I can test myself:
      • 2379 Witch Points is the cost of 5+4+3+2 = 14 Ingredients
      • 2540 Witch Points is the cost of the remaining (after the 8 Diamonds) 6+4+3 = 13 Ingredients, because even though I'm using fewer TOTAL Witch Point Ingredients, I'm using MORE of all three than I used before, because I'm trying to push up the % Success Rate for the Effect that I'm after.
      • 7616 Witch Points would be the cost if I wanted to avoid Diamonds altogether, and could still use the second recipe.
The forum rules don't allow images larger than 640x480, but the recipe resolution is still decent enough for you to zoom your screen to about 250% or so, depending on your monitor and your eyesight.

To Zoom, use Ctrl + or Ctrl - on a PC, or a two-finger stretch on a touchscreen.

AS IF Recipes are listed later in this thread. They don't really exist, but you can fake them by overloading the 4 Diploma T1 Recipe Template.
  • 1 Diploma C_ Recipe for Coins
  • 2 Diploma WS Recipe for Workstation Supplies
  • 3 Diploma SB Recipe for Barracks Strength
4 Diploma T1 Recipe for Trader's Basic Goods

  • The Dark Red columns are the Effects that you can't brew. Your current level, in cell Q1, is just for Conditional Formatting which is used to turn future levels RED. There's a separate tab for each Diploma Level, because the guts of the spreadsheet, in the A5:L16 range, was hand calculated.
  • The Gold Horizontal stripes indicate which Ingredients will cost you some Diamonds. While the M5:M16 range is formatted for Short Dates, any non-blank value will yield a gold stripe.
So what's with the Diagonal Stuff in the Middle???
  • 1/7+1/7+2/7+3/7 = 7/7 = 1, and EVERY Ingredient fills four adjacent cells
  • If a column is zeroed out, it's because you don't have the Diploma for that Effect
  • So the "missing" potency is simply distributed over the remaining cells. <<<< THIS IS IMPORTANT!!

SCALING
Each of the numbers that you'll actually see is scaled by exactly the same factor. If you mouseover cell N18, you'll see one of several tool tips.
  • This is a static scaling factor that's used simply to match the %_Success display in the Brewery.
  • The formula for the Scaling_Factor is = (N/25) * (4/7) * (1/100) where N is the Number of Ingredients.
    • =(N/25) because 25 Ingredients yields 100% Success
    • *(4 because there are 4 elements per Effect but
    • /7) 7 points per Ingredient are distributed.
    • *(1/100) so we can match the %_Success display.
  • The Brewery_% Success rate, In-World, is sequenced from the HIGHEST % Success Rate to the LOWEST. For our purposes, it's better left next to the related Ingredient.
  • % Success Rate can be verified in the In-World Brewery window.
And that's enough for one post.

Studying
This material was posted earlier at Studying
During the Cauldon Study Phase you can view the Research Diplomas at the top of the page. Each time you complete all of the Techs in a Chapter, an additional Effect becomes available.

Note also that clicking on each Effect provides you with your current Boost and Duration. This information can be plugged into the top few rows of your own copy of the downloable Cauldrons 101 - N Diploma Recipe Design - Sheets - Katwick 2023B20 which, at this point, only covers the Diplomas for levels 1-12.

The Effects in the table are in database order which is NOT the Diploma order, because the developers have skipped around a bit to minimize Ingredient interference. As a consequence, some of your earlier recipies will degrade as Diplomas are released.

Brewing
This material was posted earlier at Brewing
On the Brewing Screen I've sequenced the Ingredients just like you would read text. As far as I can tell, the ingredient names are just decorative, although it seems to me that the Ingredients, and their Effects, SHOULD change with the seasons. We shall see.

Brewery.jpg

Costs can be minimized, for real recipes with more than one of each Ingredient, by Adding the largest amount first (your BEST) Ingredient, then trim out the recipe with smaller and smaller amounts of (cheaper) Ingredients. This approach will push your total % Success higher and higher, while lowering the % Success for specific Effects, but getting something that you didn't particularly want is still better than getting nothing at all.

The GOTCHAs are:
  • Every Ingredient is NOT "Fresh" every week, as indicated by the fixed 25 Diamonds cost on four ingredients
  • It will cost you some Diamonds if you want to use your favorite recipe week after week.
  • If you're going to use some Diamonds anyway, use them FIRST. Using Witch Points raises the cost of ALL subsequent Ingredients, using Diamonds doesn't.
  • New Diplomas, as you advance through your Tech Tree, are going to mess up your favorite recipes anyway.
The Caldron is a wonderful addition to the game, and folks at every level will have edge conditions that can be exploited to create extraordinary recipes, until they advance to their next chapter.

%_Success per Ingredient

This is a work in progress, but you're encouraged to take a look at
Accumulative Success Rate per Ingredient
Let me know if you can't access the Google Sheet. It's just a test, because the formula is still wrong.

Twenty Five Ingredients, of any sort in any order, will yield a 100% Success Rate, sliced and diced in accordance with your Recipe design, which is all about improving the Odds of getting the Effects that you want. If you've been doing Tournaments, and have several Goblets (rolls of the dice), your focus may well be on a couple of compatible Effects, but you have to quit while you "think" you're ahead because you'll get whichever Effect was in your final Goblet. Most people try for a combination of "not bad" Effects.

The Number of Ingredients drives your TOTAL % Success Rate, using a simple Fixed Contribution model. For example, If you have $10, and somebody gives you $1, that's a 10% increase, but if you already have $100, and somebody gives you $1, that's only a 1% increase. But it seems that the developers have fudged it a bit, to favor larger recipes with a few Diamonds here and there. Fair enough!!:coin:

Every Ingredient that you put in the Brew Pot adds some % Success points, sliced 4 ways and rearranged a bit if you're missing a Diploma or two. The default 4 cell staggered Ingredient pattern is 1+1+2+3=7 for each Ingredient, so 1/7 + 1/7 + (1/7+1/7) + (1/7+1/7+1/7) = 1, sliced 4 ways, and rearranged as needed, so that the overall contribution will remain at 1 Ingredient. The points will always go somewhere. As a consequence of the stagger, the cross total for the various Effects varies from 1/7 to an amazing 28/7. That's why you start out with 4 sprinkled around Diplomas. Later on, because the Nasty Brewery Troll's % + Your % Success Rates always adds up to 100%, you'll have a chance of actually hitting on your various effects, and the Troll will take hindmost.

Of course that's not the end of the story. Once you've GOT the Effect for a few hours, you have to understand how to USE it effectively, but that's what Phase II is for, wherein Studying the various effects can improve their benefit.

We have not yet found the precise formula for the Accumulative % Success Rate vs # of Ingredients, but we're fairly sure that it's NOT the same for all Diploma levels. Can you spell Regression Analysis?

Screenshot_20230217_012947_Microsoft 365 (Office).jpg

Accumulative Success Rate - Katwick 2023B22.png

It's not linear either. This chart will get a LOT more wobbly as we accumulate some N Diploma data.

If you're really into this stuff it would be MOST helpful if you could copy paste the following table into a reply, and fill it with your own data, which I'll then roll into the main graph using several colors per vertical bar (# of Ingredients) sequenced by N Diplomas, with full credit, OF COURSE, but maybe a couple of assignments as well. ;) If your data completely matches what we already have, then just say so, as that would indicate that we're chasing a false trail.
  • Grab some scratch paper
  • In the Brewery, add one ingredient at a time and record your cumulative % Success Rate
    • We want the SUM of the Individual % Success rates, as you go
    • If there's something else that's interesting, include that observation as well
    • If you have a cool recipe, toss that in too, or if you want to be REALLY HELPFUL, plug your recipe into the N Diploma Recipe Design sheet, that's in the first post in this thread, and give us a snapshot of your recipe
  • Copy paste the following table into a Reply, and fill in your own data
    • Don't worry about pushing stuff off of the page, there'll be a scroll bar if it's needed
    • We'll then roll your data into the above error chart, and somehow we'll corner this beast.

We're trying to isolate the variables that are driving us nuts.

Cost per Ingredient
Previously posted at 100% Success
Verification Recipe - 100% Success with 25 Witch Point Ingredients
Twenty Five Ingredients guarantees a 100% Success Rate (for 10 Diplomas?).
  • Sequencing your Ingredients MOST to LEAST is the cheapest, because using Witch Points
    • Will raise the SAME Ingredient Next Price by 154% (for 10 Diplomas?)
    • Will raise all OTHER Ingredient Next Prices by 110% (for 10 Diplomas?)
    • Four Ingredients, ?random? and different each week, will only be available for the fixed price of 25 Diamonds.
    • As a design convenience, #9, #10, #11, and #12 just "happened to be" my four 25 Diamond Ingredients "this" week
    • Using Diamonds does NOT raise the Next Price of any of the Ingredients.
      • In your Brewed Recipes, use any Diamonds FIRST, to reduce the subsequent amounts and types of Witch Point Ingredients.
      • When you're just fiddling, and not actually Brewing anything, the sequence doesn't matter, because you have a unlimited supply of Monopoly Money.
    • If you want to just use a few favorite recipes every week, it will cost you some Diamonds
  • In the following examples, each recipe uses 25 Witch Point Ingredients. This allows us to show the importance of sequencing.
    • 8519 Witch Points for 1 + 8 singles + 8 singles + 8 singles
    • 9854 Witch Points for 1 + 8 doubles + 4 doubles
    • 7383 Witch Points for 1 + 8 triples
    • 9222 Witch Points for 1 + 6 quadruples (only 6 different Ingredients)
    • 11.5k Witch Points for 5 quintuples (only 5 different Ingredients)
    • 15.0k Witch Points for 1 + 4 sextets (only 4 different ingredients)
    • 15.9k Witch Points for 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 is a very bad way to add 25 ingredients
    • 10.8k Witch Points for 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 has 5 different STAGGERED Ingredients, which allows you to go heavy on your target Effect, and it's relatively cheap.
    • Do note that "Least to Most" is WAY more expensive than "Most to Least".
  • SEQUENCE MATTERS!! because it influences the COST of your Production Recipe.
12 Diploma Success Recipe for 25 Herbs.png

Again, these results are for a city with 10 Diplomas. Studying (as I understand it) only buffs the Boost of whichever Effect is randomly selected. Tweaking the % Success in your favor is all about how the ingredients interact, and that analysis is my next exercise.
This data is from Feb 12, 2023 with 10 Diplomas and 9 points of SB Boost. US-Khelonaar-Katwick.

5 Diploma T2 Recipes for Trader's Refined Goods

Here are two good 5 Diploma recipes for Refined Goods. If they don't work for you, PLEASE let us know so that we can refine our recipe model.
  • The first recipe uses 5+4+3+2=14 herbs, which is a good recipe for the price, but there's probably something better. Our focus is on using EXACTLY the same mix of Ingredients for EVERY Diploma level, so that we'll eventually have enough information to post a series of "not bad" recipes. We've ignored the Diamonds, because they change every week in any case.
  • The second recipe uses 8+6+4+3=21 herbs, an excellent recipe for the price, but you'll probably only want to use it during the weeks when you can throw 200 Diamonds at the 8 Herbs, plus only a few more Witch Points than the 14 herb recipe.
    • Or you can do a BACKWARDS test brew (Least to Most) to see how far your Witch Points will get you
    • Then do a CORRECT test brew (Most to Least) with
      • Diamonds at any time, any where (but First is Best,) followed by
      • However many Witch Points you can spare.
  • BACKWARDS test brews will always be more expensive than doing it right, but Backwards Test Brews are a quick and dirty technique for approximating the price on the high side, and you can carry the unused Witch Points over to the Studying phase.
 (If you're squinting, just ZOOM IN using a two-finger stretch or Ctrl + then Ctrl -
5 Diploma T2 Recipe.png

In particular, look at the 5+4+3+2=14 amounts that we're using for the Herbs. If you look closedly at column J, which is where the T1 effect is located, and then at the Ingredients in column O (31 means Row 3 Column 1 in the Brewery) you'll notice that the Ingredients are NOT added in order. Hit the highest contributors the hardest, and the soonest.
  • 31 Eye_Sprouts contributes a full 7 points to T1, so it should get the greatest amount of ingredients
  • 23 Nightshade_Blossom contributes 4.7 points, so it should be second
  • Now you need to look at the SECONDARY Effects, because the next two ingredients contribute the name number of points to T2
    • 24 Mocking_Tongues contributes 3.5 to T2 PLUS 3.5 to WS
    • 22 Caterpillar_Lime contributes 3.5 to T2 BUT ONLY 2.3 to WS, so it should be last, with the smaller amount
  • You COULD also do a least squares regression analysis to determine the mix that would best serve your current buffs and immediate needs, but that would be a bit much even for me
5 Diploma T2 Recipe with Diamonds.png

This is a more expensive recipe, like three times as expensive if you don't wipe out the greatest ingredient with Diamonds.

But I have 13 Diplomas. What about ME?? :(

Perhaps you're looking for Cauldrons 201? We're working on it.

Levels 13-24 (presumably) use the same techniques, except that the Ingredient attributes are
  • Sequential ODD 1 _1 _ 2_ 3 _ or
  • Sequential EVEN _ 1 _ 1_ 2 _ 3
  • I'd bet you several Diamonds that Cauldron II will have NEGATIVE Ingredients that will lay on top of our current ingredients, which will act just like a NEGATIVE SELECTIVE Diploma, in that it will allow End Game players to slice and dice their Recipes.
    • Sequential EVEN _ -1 _ -1 _ -2 _ 3
    • Sequential ODD -1 _ -1 _ -2 _ -3 _
  • I'd also guess that the Weeds won't effect level 1-12 Diplomas at all, but that would be pure speculation. :p

I'm In Chapter 11 at the moment, with 10 Diplomas, and I have a Beta City that's in Chapter 4. Analyzing the Nether Regions COULD wait a few months, but, if one of our End Game Players is interested I'd welcome the help, especially with the testing and validation.

AND you should take EVERYTHING in Cauldrons 101 with a grain of Salt , because I'm depending on a lot of secondary sources, and Life wouldn't be nearly as interesting if everything were a Slam Dunk.

4 Diplomas Recipe Design
You are encouraged to download a copy of this Excel spreadsheet, from
N Diplomas Recipe Design - Katwick 2023B20
I've also create an HTML version that seem to work, but I haven't figured out how to get a link that anybody can use.

I'll be posting 2 similar recipes for each Cauldron Diploma level.
  1. A good recipe that uses 5+4+3+2=14 Ingredients
  2. An excellent recipe that uses 8+6+4+3=21 Ingredients
    • Each week four (random) Ingredients will cost 25 Diamonds each, if you're willing to spend a few Diamonds
      • 5+4+3+2 assumes 14 Witch Point Ingredients
      • 8+6+4+3 assumes 8*25=200 Diamond Ingredients plus 6+4+3=13 Witch Point Ingredients
    • In a later post we'll be discussing costs, but for now let's assume that you lucked out, and the BEST of your ingredients is "On Sale"
    • At Diploma Level 10, because that's what I can test myself.
      • 2379 Witch Points is the cost of 5+4+3+2 = 14 Ingredients
      • 2540 Witch Points is the cost of the remaining (after the 8 Diamonds) 6+4+3 = 13 Ingredients, because even though I'm using fewer TOTAL Witch Point Ingredients, I'm using MORE of three that I AM using, because I'm trying to push up the % Success Rate for the Effect that I'm after.
      • 7616 Witch Points would be the cost if I wanted to avoid Diamonds, and still use the second recipe.
The forum rules don't allow images large than 640x480, but the resolution is still decent enough for you to zoom your screen to about 250% or so, depending on your monitor and your eyesight.

I'll go into more detail in later posts but for now
  • The Dark Red columns are the Effects that you can't brew. Your current level, in cell Q1, is just for Conditional Formatting which is used to turn future levels RED. There's a separate tab for each Diploma Level, because the guts of the spreadsheet, in the A5:L16 range, was hand calculated.
  • The Gold Horizontal stripes indicate which Ingredient will cost you some Diamonds.

For our purposes, it's better left next to the relate Ingredient.
  • % Success Rate can be verified in the In-World Brewery window.
And that's enough for one post. ;)
Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this and helping us!

There aren't any missing Effects, so nothing gets sliced nor diced. It's boring.

 Showtime!!! - Have at it! I'll only be asking for a free lunch, or two.

I'll be editing the relevant material as we learn stuff, so your comments and question are MOST of what's fun. Putting the project together feels too much like working.
