Okay, you've stumped me on one of them, the last one.

Here are the others:
1 across Humans
2 across AD
3 across Rename
4 across Alight
5 across Ai
6 across Decode

7down Herald
8 down El
9 down Maniac
10 down Adagio

The 11 down I got just by getting the others; I didn't know it was MH

Just as I was writing this and was about to say I can't figure out the last one, it hit me .... seethe.

Cool game! Thanks moho

Although I do admit, a lot of people wouldn't get the Chicago one without googling, which I was determined not to do on this. But I didn't have to ... I was born and raised in Chicago, lol.

Sorry, maybe I should have waited, lol. But I had a few minutes of downtime and was bored, so I actually drew it out on paper to make it easier for me. :)

The first meaning of "emerge" is "come out", of course.
However, I used its "second" meaning: "to become apparent or prominent" as in:
"United have emerged as the bookies' clear favorite", where it roughly means "to enter the picture".
(definition and example provided by Google).

Don't know how to fill it out, but here it is, anyway.
It would be useful if you could, so that there should be more people devising these puzzles. I mean, if they were enthusiastic enough... :)

I see your definition was correct -- I just missed it. Thanks for expanding my vocabulary .

How would one create a crossword puzzle? Is there a web site?

No, I don't think there is.

I for one use the traditional pencil and paper. I have come up with this small sized square with a pattern that I can handle.
I use my limited vocabulary knowledge and the mighty Google to create the crossword puzzle.

Then I draw it with the help of a simple to use piece of software that can be downloaded and used for free: RealWorld Paint.
That's all. :)

7 CARTOP (??)

Thank you for your solutions. I will only comment on the full solutions.

Number 1 is not "cheats." I came up with that definition due to the many seminars where lecturers always mentioned this when they made comments on economic problems the market was going through. Number 2 is not "xd" either.

Number 3 and number 4 are correct.

Number 5 is not Teslium. Teslium is an undiscovered element whereas the one mentioned in our puzzle plays an important role in metallurgy.
It is more abundant in the Universe than it is on our planet, and it was first discovered in Romania.

Number 7 is "cartop" indeed. I had no idea this word existed before I made this puzzle. Number 8 is ER, indeed.

Number 9 is not "excite."

Number 11 and number 12 are correct.
