Back in the olden days when I had to buy goods in person, I usually started my Christmas shopping around Dec 23. Starting on the 23rd gave me 1 day to procrastinate. 
With the modern wonders of Amazon (and holiday shipping schedules), I usually start my shopping around the 17th or 18th. Starting so soon is a burden, but at least I don't have to leave the house. LOL
