Dust & Shrooms - Broken Shards

I seem to be losing large chunks of what little is left of my brain.

1. If I build and grow a Magic Dust factory, will it eventually start spewing out Alloy Shrooms? (at level 24ish?)

2. Example: I execute a Craft option that makes 3 Broken Shards. If I only need 2 Broken Shards to complete a Rune Shard, does the 3rd one just "fly away"?

You do loose any shards past 10. Don't know about number 1. That one is way above my pay grade.
