Is there a benchmark I should be trying to meet? I'm fighting with space all of the time (I'm pretty new BTW. Still in Chapter 1).

1. Although I'm close to the end of Chapter 1, I am fighting mobs that destroy my entire army. And if I'm reading the tree correctly, I don't get to my next class of fighter until the end of Chapter 2.

2. I have to keep building houses because I run out of people to continue. It's hard to continue due to lack of land to keep building. I used alot of my diamonds not knowing I shouldn't be using them at that time. Maybe I should have started over days ago, I don't know.

3. This Wonka event: There is no way I can see how to gain 1k of those three materials... none.

4. Should I be shooting for a certain number of types and levels of buildings prior to starting Chapter 2?

5. I try my best to keep my people happy at 125-150. This means taking up realestate for even more residences!

I've gone through some of the guides and searched the forums for benchmarks to no avail. Any advice here guys?

I'm on Winyandor.... in case someone can spec me.

Hi Airtaz
Welcome to the game, you have made a good start so far.
  1. The fights can be challenging initially as you are often using troops against units that are specialised against you. Keep an eye on your squad size verse the enemy, if theirs is double yours avoid that province. As a general rule at this stage use ranged units against ranged and close combat against close combat. You may need to mix things up on occasion. Watch your scouting and don't rush ahaead on this. The advanced scout tech will make your fights easier but only for provinces scouted after that tech. Prior to chapter 2 try and stick to the first and second ring which I think is the 10 provinces you need. You may need to negotiate some encounters that are/feel too difficult.
  2. Space is very tight initially and while it is always a challenege to fit things in it does ease a bit as you move along. Try to avoid excess roads, so build roads along the short edge of buildings and place culture items out of the way as they do not need roads. While not pretty often using rows or columns is quite efficient.
  3. A fellowship would be really helpful for you. Even at this level you could swap goods with someone to get the 1000 items. You don't need 1000 items you just swap 100 items 10 times, do it back and forth if needed. A fellowship will also help you so you can focus on boosted goods only and trade for the other items. In your case you could focus on planks only and trade fellowship or neighbours for marble and steel.
  4. This is a difficult one and depends a lot on your play style. Looking at your town 6 workshops should be good for now, if you play a lot it could hold you for a few eras, in time you will potentially want another 2 but this also depends on your playtime, factory numbers, armoury numbers and how often you build troops. If you can trade and go boost only go for 6 planks up to 10 if space/population allows for it. You wont necessarily keep 10 once you can build them to the next size (its ok to delete buildings) but you are zoning the space for factories. Everything else looks good with what you have.
  5. If you are referring to the culture bonus it is nice to keep them around the 150% mark but sometimes you may need to let that number drop so you can squeeze in something else. That part is the challenge for you to prioritise what is more important at a set time.
Other tips:
  • Moving into era 2 the military techs will help you a lot with the provinces so keep working on these. Again be mindful of scouting rings close into your town so fights are easier, they get harder each ring further away so you will need the advanced scout tech to keep things easier. This balance should ease as you get further into the game.
  • You unlock the magic academy in this era but I would hold off building it until the third era. Your space is critical still and you will likely lack relics for it to be used a lot. As you close in on tournaments that is a good time to build it which is closer to the end of era 3.
  • Use the repeatable quests to your advantage. In my guide I think I have listed the elve era 1 quests have a look at them you should be able to cycle through them and use the right quest at the right time. This will really help you increase in coins/supplies and goods. I started a brand new town a couple days ago and without a fellowship and I have several 100 of my non-boost goods thanks to the quests which allows me to negotiate as needed which allows me to complete more quests. My tip is:
    • Line up either 3 encounters or complete a province (rotate these and don't finish a province during the 3 encounter quest leave it at 7/8 completed go do another encounter and come back for number 8 when on complete a province)
    • This will build up your coins/supplies as they increase you can then use the gain 40 of x good guest to buy goods. Go to the wholesaler (in the trader) and buy 2 lots of 20 of the good, you decide if coins, supplies or both is best. Collect that quest then repeat for the other good and collect that quest.
    • Go back to 3 encounters and province completion and repeat

Your post seems like it should be helpful, but it is pretty confusing. Remember I'm new.

You talk about repeatable quests. I just do whatever pops up on the left side of the screen from the NPC's.

Finding people to trade with, well I don't see that happening at this point.

I have tried to look for fellowships, but that is also not very user friendly.

Mykan has posted a list of the quests so you can print them out and keep next to you. just click decline on the ones you do not want. you will notice they come around again once you go through the list. As you grow and open new chapters, the list becomes a bit longer. smiles. but, I never do a declinable quest I do not want to do . Some of the quests are not declinable. Those do not give you an option. Mykan has also made a list of them so you know what to expect coming up. If you have not read his different guides, you should. The information there is so helpful!!!
