Help in using Armies in the Provinces

I cannot figure out how to use the armies when fighting in the provinces. The enemies are always so numerous and there doesn't seam like there is any way to win. Any suggestions?

Are you able to provide a little bit of information about your situation?
  • What era are you in?
  • What is your squad size?
  • How many provinces have you explored (not completed but scouted)?
  • Was you exploration in a "circular" fashion?
  • What distance from your town are the fights in?
Have you tried Tournaments as a practice area? My suspicion is you are in one of the 2 most common issues, either:
  • You are in era 1-2 or early 3
  • You have scouted to a point that fights have become very difficult and/or impossible and need your technology to catch up.

Hello,

I have been steadily training troups and upgrading Barracks and armories. I'm in chapter 3, just did squad upgrade. I have been reading and trying to understand the complex combinations of what works against what.

I used be really great at D&D roll-the-dice battles as an Elven ranger. With imaginative and great story-telling dungeon masters, these games were super fun. This game has nothing to do with fairness, imo. I can't wrap my head around how to win, have lost many battles, even when I outnumber them.

Here are 2 latest examples, and these are the easier tourney fights. I am outnumbered 90 to 390 in Provinces. I believe that's my fault for scouting ahead way too far!

Any help appreciated. I tried to use my best units against their units.I also added a screenshot of a tourney I am in now- I also have Cerberus, which I didn't see before that you have to click on training ground icon....lol rookie. How to win this one?

For the basics I find trying to keep my unit choices to 1 or 2 options works well. As you gain more experience you learn where to vary it. In the case of your last picture I would go with
  • All archers; or
  • 1 treant/golem and 4 archers (in that order)
Every province is made up of 4 units from 3 different unit types. 2 units are of the same type. There is always one unit type that is specialised against 2 of the 3 unit types in the province, this is your key unit type. For this tournament it is light range, invariably this will be your go to unit. Only when there are a lot of light melee units against you would I vary that approach and then use either a treant/golem to help.

There are many different variations a person could do depending on the fight combo, I have tried to keep this simple :oops:

Thanks, Mykan,
I just won one! Using 4 archers and a cerb. Then, the very next round, I was outnumbered. Can we win if its like 115/117?

We can win up until outnumbered by approx 2:1. Tournaments scale in difficulty each round and thankfully don't get to 2:1 but they do get hard. They are a great way to practice and increase your ability 1 round at a time.

Cerberus are great anti mage units so they definitely have a place in this tournament. Knowing when to use the different combinations will help improve your chances.
