@Henroo and
@mucksterme said, clicking the "$" button puts your interface into Sell Mode, where you can click a building to sell it.
In the browser version, it's up above the bottom bar.
On mobile, this button is near the bottom-right corner of the screen.
There are some buildings that, once deployed, cannot be sold. This includes your Main Hall, Magic Academy, Barracks, and Builders' Hut.
"mothballing" a building is done with the Teleport spell. To access this, click the (darker) blue spell in the Enchantments tab of your spell inventory and the game will switch to Teleport Mode.
Any building that you teleport will appear in the Summonings tab of your spell inventory. Any productions that the building was working on will be canceled. There are many buildings you can teleport, but somewhat like selling, there are some buildings you can't teleport. The general rule of thumb being that you can't teleport anything that limits you to a certain number of instances of that building (normally one). This includes:
- Main Hall
- Barracks, Training Grounds, and Mercenary Camp
- Magic Academy
- Builders' Hut
- Ancient Wonders (any of them, no matter how much we wish we could teleport these)
- Any of the various Portals used by a Guest Race
- Any other structure which may limit you to a certain number of instances. You will be told what that limit is when you try to build them from the Build menu.
- Any building that expires, such as Dwarven Armorer or Carting Library.
We used to not be able to teleport evolving buildings as well, but that was fixed a couple years back. It gave us hope that Ancient Wonders might become teleportable too, but that never happened. Too many issues, the developers said.
An example of a building which tells you the limit:
As a side note, chapter 13 is rife with such settlement buildings. Do be careful as I've heard it's rather catty up in that pyramid.

You can obtain Teleport spells from certain fights in the Spire, as well as certain random chests and Fellowship Rewards within Spire. Spire's where it's at. When you gain access to it (if you don't have it already), endeavor to reach as far as you can.
Going further in Spire and Tournament are one of the reasons why one might want to switch out of their first fellowship, if it comes to that. If it happens to you; don't worry! It happens to nearly everyone. The fact that you're here on the forum massively increases your chances! If you're willing to learn, feel free to try applying to high ranked fellowships. I did that on two of the servers I'm on and even after half a year, I'm still dead last in rankings. Rankings matters not; performance does. Don't be afraid to ask for help. My goodness, this is getting long. I'd better stop!
