How to use Knowledge Point instants

I'm having trouble using the Knowledge instant boosts. Once I'm in research threre doesn't appear to be any way to pull them up.

Knowledge instants can be used from the research section of any AW by clicking on the golden book icon to the right of the regular kp icons.

The knowledge instants are for wonders. They can't be used to advance in techs in the research tree. That only takes the regular kp, not instants.
