Inventory button in mobile stops responding

Reproducibility: 4/5 (1/5 = happened once; 2/5 = happens randomly; 3/5 = happens sometimes; 4/5 = happens often, but not always; 5/5 = happens always)

Current situation:
After playing for a while and switching in and out of the app on iPad, the inventory button (in top row of screen) stops responding to taps. The rest of the game works. Force closing and restarting the game restores functionality. This has been happening frequently since the last update.

Expect the controls to work. :)

Reproduction Steps
1. Play normally, switching between apps and going about your normal life. Eventually the button will stop working.
(Sorry I don't have better details about what triggers the bug!)
