To some extent, you can use ElvenStats to see if their score has not changed. It takes a couple of weeks for someone to appear inactive there. BUT the inactive status is based on score change, so if they've come to visit or make productions but not done any battles or upgrades their score wont change.
In game you can check your notifications to see if they've come to polish any of your buildings.
edited to add: if they contribute to tourney, you will see that they've scored. same in the spire if you are playing desktop and can hover over the portraits to see the names.
