Mushroom farm

I just bought a mushroom farm and placed it next to a road but remained black with a red circle over it. What else do I have to do?

The orc mushroom farms (and the rally points) have to be connected by a swamp trail to the orc portal. You will need 15-20 of the mushroom farms. Portal profits will adjust the number of support buildings needed if you don't plan on upgrading your streets.

Also, the Swamp Trail is the only connection Mushroom Farms need. They don't need to touch BOTH the Swamp Trail and 1 of your regular roads. Same will be true for the Orc Rally Points. The only orc building that needs to touch a normal road is the portal.

How do I gain a catalyst spell?

You can produce the catalyst spell (you'll see that abbreviated as CC here in the forums sometimes) in the Magic Academy. Once you get to Ch4 you will get access to the Spire of Eternity and you can win them in some of the chests there.

@Bethk - what will help you with every new chapter is the following:
As you change chapters, you can go to Elvengems.com - scroll down to guest race guide - select your guest race. elvengems will describe the best ways to approach the challenges of that chapter including negotiating the tech tree and laying out your town. Also, go back to elvengems home page, scroll to storyline quests and click on it - click on guest races VI-XV - scroll down a little way and click on your guest race then the schedule of all quests will appear below. Just so that you will know what to expect.
