Goldilocks Zone (GZ) - This is the area on the world map where combat is possible as the enemy squad size is less than double a players squad size. It relates directly to the number of provinces a person has scouted. Many players try to define a formula to identify this area but there are different formulas that are used.
Expected Zone - Similar to the Goldilocks zone but it refers to the number of scouted provinces the developers expect we should have completed for each chapter. This can be determined by looking at the chest over the advanced scout technology at the end of each era which is the minimum. The chest for the chapter after the minimum is the maximum number of scouted provinces.
Rune or Rune Shard - This is a whole rune that players collect and can be used to place into a rune wheel to build or upgrade a wonder
Broken Shard - These are found in tournaments or when a rune fails to insert in a rune wheel. You need 10 to form a complete Rune.

Chapter or Era - Refers to your technology tree and the technological chapter. Usually referenced with a number or the name of the guest race
S&D - Sorcerers and dragons

For tournaments the below terms are used. Not all terms are commonplace so the terms and definitions may change over time. Fellowship Tournaments are relatively new and terms are still fluctuating.
Checkpoint - The reward chest for a fellowship, there are 10 checkpoints.
Round - Every province can be completed multiple times up to a maximum of 6. A number to indicate the round will normally follow, for example round 3. The game uses stars to indicate the rounds.
25@6x6 - Refers to 25 fellowship members needing to complete 6 provinces to round 6 to obtain the final checkpoint.
