hello as i help my neighbors sometimes i get only coins and other times i get both coins and supplies why does this happen?

You get supplies, as well as coins, if you're visiting someone who has recently visited your city.
I've discovered, btw, that visiting the neighbors goes a lot smoother if you move your mouse to the upper left corner while the city is still loading. Anticipating the location of the Helping Hands makes a surprising difference in how efficient the game feels, and saves you some time.
