Well
It's like the Dwarf or Fairy portal, it brings the Orc King to your city. Without the Portal, none of your guest race buildings will function, in this case the mushroom farms and rally points.
Edit: I know, it looks really cool, but outside of bringing smelly, grumpy orcs who want to play soccer with your marble reserves, it really only functions the same as any early level portal.
