I have come across many players who have some kind of moniker like "CBMH or C/B/MH or other such nonsense. What does all that mean ?

That way they are telling you in which order they prefer neighbourly help. C = Culture, M or MH = Main Hall and B or BH = Builder's Hut.

Example: If a player has C/B/M in their city name it means they prefer you click their culture buildings first, if none of those are available you should click their Builder's Hut and if even that isn't available at the moment you should click their Main Hall.

That is just what those players want you to help (in that order) MH or M= Main Hall, C= Culture, B or BH = builders hut. So if you come accross somebody who want's C, but no culture is left available, you can move to the item that they want help with next.
