My Archmage DOES care very much, and she spends time messaging people and asking them to join.
Unfortunately it's results that count, not intentions. I'm an engineer, by both profession and preference, and one of the grim realities is that Work = Force x Distance. If nothing is moving it doesn't matter HOW hard you're pushing, it's not working.

So, apropos your situation, you need to have a heart-to-heart talk with your Archmage. Neither of you are getting the results that you deserve.

Well, I'm a tester by profession, I keep working at things and figuring out why it isn't working until I find something that does. Granted, this game involves other people so... even though I always feel bad about booting folks, sometimes that's what one has to do.
So, maybe some ideas on how to recruit might help. I know what I look for. It doesn't always work, but all I can do is try to give as much to the active players in the fellowship that I have, remove those who aren't actively visiting, trading and growing to make room for those who might and preferably have folks who are about the same advancement since that means we are likely to be trading a similar amount of goods.

If you are only on one server, it may be beneficial to you both to start on another server and join an established fellowship to experience how they run things. I joined one on the Beta server who sent out several welcome letters, it gave me ideas on things that may be beneficial in my own fellowship. It's also why I reached out on here regarding fair trades to get more input from experienced players.

Have fun!

I was an Archmage committed to my own standard and charter, and I am stubbornly loyal. I was on the new server, so everyone in my neighborhood made a flag and wrote a charter, and we were lots of little nation states. Then we saw the advantages of merging. I agree with Lyleth about learning from other fellowships in other servers. I was invited into an amazing fellowship on a different server, and learned how things could be, and weren't in my fellowship. I took my two most devoted fellows, turned over the Archmage powers to another member who was always online, but not really progressing, and hit the button to leave. Oh, that was hard. Yes, they have changed the standard, and a bit of the charter, and reassigned archmage, and all sorts of things while I have been gone. And I think of them from time to time. But I would have quit the game entirely if I had stayed.

Do consider joining a more active fellowship. You might even need to try a couple to find a good fit with like-minded players. Exchange emails first. Encourage your Archmage to consider long term goals for her own game. Does she need the title to achieve those goals? If you are on one of the new servers, things are pretty fluid in the beginning, but settle down, then it is harder to find a good fellowship.

Best wishes for a fun game.

I find the concept of merging with neighbors to form a fellowship, does not really address the problem. I can interact with neighbors through trade and NH anyway, but to broaden trade and NH horizons, it seems a fellowship of people from other neighborhoods makes more sense. An active fellowship can make all the difference for the enjoyment of the game. Best wishes to all.

I agree with Lunacy that it is helpful to have players that aren't in your direct neighborhood. On Arendyll I am surrounded by some higher level players and others who are able to trade things that we are at times short on in our fellowship. If we were all clustered we wouldn't be able to take advantage of the differences in our neighborhoods.

Great point, Lyleth! I hadn't even considered, in my post, that varied neighborhoods (in one fellowship) also brings an increased variety of goods with more different level players in the mix.
