Too Many Portal Profits

OMG....I am so sick of winning nothing but Portal Profits in the Spire. I currently have 148 of those blasted things and hardly ever use them. Inno, please, please, cut down on the frequency of Portal Profits! I for one would prefer the time savings prizes instead of the Portal Profit. All in all, however, in my humble opinion, the Spire prizes are not much incentive for playing the Spire. Tourney is way better. Okay....I am done venting. Thanks for lending an ear. :)

Only 148? I have many more than that in one city, while in another city I had used them all up before slowly rebuilding my supply. It really matters what chapter you are in for how valuable they are, as there are several chapters where you can complete them by just building a level 4 portal and using portal profits, while other chapters barely let you use them. Of course, if your goal is to complete all the chapter quests, instead of ignoring them until you start the next chapter, then portal profits will be less useful in every chapter.

157 10% PPs here. I sure wish the Spire would stop PPing all over me and my city, but no. When it rains, it pours. As symbols full of gold and green.

From my chapter 9 acct (it's probably the same for everyone at and after ch 6), I'm getting for full spire:
* 3 instances of 15% chance for 10% PP (first miniboss of every floor)
* 2 instances of 30% chance for 10% PP (floor 1 and 2 end bosses)
* 1 instance of 20% chance for 25% PP (floor 3 end boss)

Overall odds of some kind of mystery chest: 630%. You should average slightly more than 6 mystery chests a run.
I do not know the odds of which of the three kinds of mystery chests that would appear. Let's just leave them unknown for now.
- Let % chance of purple be A. Let % chance of gold be B. Let % chance of blue be C.
- 630% * A * 30% (of a 50% PP)
- 630% * B * 20% (of a 50% PP)
- 630% * C * 15% (of a 15% PP)

---

It's a lot of PP, but I've been told that it'll become quite useful later on by enough authoritative voices that I've held back on the rather tempting action of disenchanting them. Which would get me even more spell fragments.

But I get where y'all are coming from. I'd rather the diamonds that drop from each of those (mini)bosses. Or in the floor boss' case, those magic buildings and/or them diamonds. Or their artifacts. mmm yummy purple rock gummies

EDIT: If you do decide to disenchant those PPs (don't do this lightly; ask around and about how screwy it gets later on), level up your Magic Academy, preferably to level 5, before doing that. You'll get many more spell fragments out of the deal, along with other benefits. It's one of the first few things I spent my free diamonds on.

157 10% PPs here.

148 or 157 sounds like a lot, until you realize that equals only 15 or 16 full refills of the portal for the limited goods for that chapter. That goes a lot faster in some chapters than many realize, even the first guest race chapter, Dwarves. That one can be done with just PPs and a portal, but I am pretty sure to do that would take more than 150 of the 10% PPs.

LOL you got nothing ...

15 x 50% = 750%
19 x 20% = 380%
55 x 15% = 825%
229x 10% = 2290%
334 x 5% = 1670%

So, totaling it up I have 5915% or 59 times of Portal fills and it keeps going up.

[Edited to correct my math]

I will never, ever, ever have enough portal profits. Yes, I'd rather have a trading station (to get MORE portal profits), but while I used to denigrate them, I now absolutely adore them. When you get to the point where you have to use 10 of them just to gain enough Elvarian Zero to finish one tech in the tech tree, you'll appreciate them. While it's still slow going because you need the other guest race goods, it saves a TON of mana or seeds or sentients, and that ton is desperately needed elsewhere. No more complaints about portal profits from me! :)

While depending on your current chapter progress PP's can be annoying, the real issues with the Spire is how it's quickly becoming more and more unsustainable outside of being RNG blessed in crafting + DA rewards...

Early game, it's basically impossible to fight, as your unit recruitment is heavily knee-capped AND your units are under-powered, you likely may not have a Lv10 Fire Chicken, availability of pet food to feed the chicken, crafting up the unit boosters, etc, etc...
Later game, due to the exponential nature of the asinine formula, you'll hit a point where if DON'T have a Lv10 Fire Turkey, and, all 3 unit boosters, and a Dwarven Armorer, and the pet food for your Red Chocobo?? ...yeah, just don't even bother trying.

There's far too much reliance on luck-based RNG mechanics to keep maintaining a steady supply of boosters, and the 'difficulty calculator' is a fething joke. God forbid the devs are stupid enough to add in both unurium + ascended goods to ensure that negotiating becomes a completely dead option.
And the fix for this cluster? Just remove expansions entirely from the formula, OR, don't make it exponential, so it actually gets slightly easier as your city develops & actually becomes more powerful!!

Enough, I think to fill my portal 63 or so times.

And I use them whenever possible. Just moving slowly through chapter 18 and that's the result.

I'm not sure though, overall, all players would think there too many offered/won. It would be interesting to find out who "leaps for joy" when they receive one, and who, like me, just groans.

Huh...as a soon to be Fairy Chapter player I welcome the PPs. I actually find the excessive amount of time boosters (especially 2x 8hr in yellow chests since those are almost the same as a blue chest 3x 5hr) a little annoying. Now if it's an artifact I don't need because I don't have another base then sure that might be an exception but I have over 500 5 hour boosters and a lot more other boosters. Perhaps I'll see the value of time boosters in later chapters but so far I have so many I have all the time in the world (at least I wish that were real LOL). I actually did a late push in the spire this week just to burn some so that I could collect more ghost bottles.

i know it would "ruin" the randomness of the spire prizes, but i think it would be awesome if you got a new sort of Tome in place of PP. Like others this could allow you to select a PP, or for instance 2 pet food, or 2 8hr boosts. There could be levels of tomes to match the chest color.

additionally, as to the above… the Tome would not necessarily have to be the only prize choice in the mix. it could still be random, but maybe have one of the random selections be a Tome where you select an instant like coin rain, supply, time boost, etc. At least that way you would have a chance at choosing instead of piling up stuff you dont want.

Well, thank you everyone! I have a new respect now for Portal Profits. I'm in chapter 15 where I don't seem to need them....but, with all your good advice, I will hang on to them for later chapters rather than disenchanting them! Thanks again for your wisdom!

In the latter portion of Chapter 15, you’ll find needs for Portal Profits

Moving slowly means there is much less use for them in any chapter. Also, chapter 15 is the last chapter where you can power through on just portal profits, and then only after about the 1/3 mark of the chapter. In 16 and up, they have some use, but not like several of the earlier chapters, where all you needed was the portal and the portal profits to do an entire chapter.
