Tournament catering

Ok...so now that the battle system has been destroyed and you can't get too far in tournaments because by levels 4 and 5 the fights get next to impossible, about the only way you can really win tournaments is by catering.

However, I just learned your catering costs are tied to your storyline quests. (As far as I understand it). So, anyone who builds a city and doesn't do the storyline quests will be able to cater and win as many tournaments as they want once they get a few decent sized factories under their belts.

Why make battles so completely impossible but catering so easy?

Those tournament points are forever points.

I guess the one silver lining here for people who have been punished all this time for not having a magic academy, at least your cater costs are lower if you ignored that awful quest all this time. lol

I don't believe this is the case and if it is there are more factors in the formula. I have had a town in dwarves with quests back near era 2 and the catering cost was a lot more then towns further back in the tech tree with more updated mainline quests. The exploitation if it was only ties to mainline quests would be huge.

I have it stuck in my head that this is related to province scouting, I am sure I read it somewhere. Although it could be related to tech era which I can potentially test soon, although a sample of 1 isn't great

Comments from those who have scouted a lot and catering costs seems to be consistent with the idea of it relates to scouting. I can also see other reasons to tie it to scouts rather then tech era but then I am not a dev.

I guess we can compare. I should be a good test subject. 318 marble 960 scrolls to cater a sector on province 1, level 1 of this tournament. Other cater costs from the same province:
1260 planks, 318 crystal, 960 dust.
960 steel, 660 elixir.
660 crystal, 1260 gems.

I have the magic academy quest sitting there and I have cleared 327 provinces.

Sector distance can impact this so it is good you noted that. I have had a tournament province 1 in a ring further out then tournament province 2. Was very annoying as costs and rewards are all messed up.

Issue with not doing magic academy quest in your case is what story line quest were you up to before the MA update? The new mainline quests appear once you complete your current quest. I had this happen with the most recent update and got research sorceress or some other troop type for a town doing orc level quests.

ah...good question. I don't know that I can answer that exactly. It was somewhere back in the beginning of fairies I think. I remember thinking no way was I going to rebuild the fairy portal if I ever needed to complete that quest. There must be someone out here who has cleared close to as many provinces as I have that is up to date on the tech tree. Wouldn't that tell us at least something? Do they have the same catering costs I do or higher?

But it shouldn't be too hard to start a new city somewhere to test this. You need to do a few of the early quests or you can't even build the city, (I learned that making a city for the newbie guide), but we should be able to avoid the storyline quest pretty early. Of course, we have to get the city to the tournament section of the tech tree, but that can't be too hard.

Thanks Calenmir!! We are trying to figure out how the catering costs of the tournament change and from what factors. Can you open a province, tell us which province number it is and on what level and tell us the costs to cater some of the sectors? Catering costs are just like negotiating costs only they call them catering in the tournament.

Ok no stars that I'm seeing. It appears to be on ring 4.
I've scouted 33 provinces (though should only have 30).
Tech Era???? If by tech era you mean what chapter in the tree then it was the last research on chapter 2.

My city is just under the little sun - is that 4 rings?

I checked the numbers on 2 of my cities. Both are in chapter 4, both are also up to date on quests, both also have the same boosts
The goods were all tier one
Tournament checkpoint is #2

Even though Elcysandir is 12 provinces ahead, the catering costs for one tournament only appear to change slightly. All other variables were exactly the same

Since I had played in the first star level of all tourney provinces 1-6 & could only give you info from the second stage, I checked tourney province 7 where I had not competed, and I only have goods costs - catering does not give me any coin or supply costs, only goods.

I think we also need to know what storyline quest they are doing, so we can see if that is indeed having an effect on catering costs. But it is going to be hard to compare apples to apples. We need two people who have scouted different amounts. Or we just need to go do a town and see.
