What's in a name?

I've got a sort of interesting question? In my world there are at least two names I wonder about. Not the names but the motivation of the names. They are Fu K** Yu, and W**DaFuk. These are their names. What I wonder is why? Why do these players use names that are, obviously, questionable at best. Do they think they are really that clever? Are they just ignorant of their mistake?

Of course, this whole thing is like somebody asking, in the forum, "WTF?" Does that person not realize to what the letters refer? What words are "heard" in a persons head when they read that abbreviation? Is it really that clever to come up with this sort of thing?

Now, lest you think I'm just being some kind of up-tight judgmental person, you might note that I am not condemning their choices or themselves, but wondering two things: how or why some people think nothing of "bending" the rules (assuming they know their actions may be doing so); and, how it is the system lets them do so -- are the rules of the system just there because the maker of rules think too many would be offended by "Fu Kim Yu" and for purely pragmatic reasons have banned such expressions; or do they really think such expressions are inappropriate?

In the end it's all confusion to me because it seems like a giant dis-connect. So I ask, "what's with this?"

Oh Wise One
And then there is a player in my FS whose name is *something Elvenar changed it to*. Wouldn’t you think they could have let them choose another name?

Edited to remove actual name. Thanks for the reminder lyapo1

Well since you just broke the forum rules with your post why dont you explain "How or why you think nothing of bending the rules" in a post about bending the rules?

As for "How is it the system let's them do so".... the system is not programmed to care all that much about every possibility, the system is programmed to be responsive to reports generated by players. So until helya sees it or someone complains, your post will stay up.

This game used to be heavily advertised on Porn sites as games that would appeal to that type. I don't know if it still is but I asked several players that had what I would call "offensive" names why they did that and that was the answer I got. This is anecdotal but that's the story I got from quite a few players.

Hence, some names that defy logic for this game.

The don’t program for alternative spells or sneaking middle school ways of cussing. Inno also has a ton of names nobody can use due to them using them for when a mobile player creates an account. Lot of them are very nice fantasy names too bad they didn’t go with the generic player with a string of numbers behind it instead.

I had to report a name of a city one time. The name of the player was offensive but mild in comparison to their city name. (The player name was on par with what you wrote, AJ.) I can't repeat the city name, but I was glad they took it down (as well as the player name) pretty pronto.

I'd hope that Inno doesn't attempt to automate away this sort of problem. Every time I've seen it happen in other games, it's so very annoying. Or entertaining. Or both. A very clbuttical problem, if you will.

The rules are not that I can't quote others. Thus, in using actual names used in my world I justify it as simply quoting what the game has allowed. Now, of course, in all honesty I did consider not using the actual names and examples I've seen in order to not run afoul of those who might think such quotes themselves, not allowed, but then I thought the clarity of actual examples more necessary than a strict interpretation of rules which, obviously, are not being enforced in case of the examples given.

That my approach may come very close, and in some people's minds, actually "break" the rules, I can see. Hopefully, my explanation is sufficient for your concerns.

What? No.

"8. Inappropriate material and language

Abbreviations, self-censoring, and attempts to circumvent the censure also violate this guideline. Please note that starring out characters does not make it any less a swear word. It is still perfectly understandable and still intentionally offensive, and thus is forbidden in all forms. This is valid also for Acronyms"

The rules do not say it is okay to use inappropriate language if you are quoting someone who did it first.
Bottom line, you broke the rules because you dont think they apply to you, and until someone reports you...they wont.

Thank you for violating the rules to provide clarity, it was unnecessary. If you report the violations you mentioned, the rules will immediately be enforced.

...

While I understand your point the "censorship" in the game is far from perfect for example this is a copy paste from the game chat
"Tom, ****, and Harry are perfection for..." and clearly the use of the word Dick is censored even tho it is a proper name. Silly yes but if that was my name I would not be happy as @Dick Pierce @dickpain just two examples of accounts could attest to.

What's the point of this thread? What was the original question? Was it whether we should be breaking rules to be clear about our communication or that I was wondering how and why some people flaunt the rules for no apparent reason, or perhaps to be clever (I guess)?

Nevertheless, I think, you point is well taken and perhaps my justification isn't satisfactory to you, or you just wish to catch me in a piece of what you consider hypocrisy. But how would my being a hypocrite answer the question asked? I don't think the state of my hypocrisy or lack thereof is relevant. So why side-track the thread with you belief in it?

In addition, neither is suggesting I just report the "violation." I'm asking a question here, not acting as a police officer. So if I merely reported what I thought might be violations how does that answer the question? Again, a side issue that derails the question, though, in this case it's not a totally irrelevant one.

So, I ask again, what motivates people to flaunt the rules without any decent reason to do so? (Or maybe they do have a decent reason to do so?)

Thanks for returning us to the question at hand. Much appreciated.

You can answer the first question yourself. You bent the rules and thought nothing of it because. . . "reasons".
As for the second question, the system depends upon people reporting violations because, as pointed out by others we want Richard to play and we do not want clbuttic issues.

Thanks for returning us to the question at hand. Much appreciated.
I did not stray.

I did not stray.

If you read the original post you might find I was asking for reasons for that sort of thing. In my post I gave reasons for my "straying." Since it's improbable that the users of such names are merely quoting others, I was asking for their reasoning. You may disagree with my reasoning, but I gave it. So pointing out that I did was hypocritical is not on the subject of why those in the game and forum who give no reason for flaunting the rules. It's unfortunate that you can't show how my "straying" from the rules explains or gives reasons for their "straying." And since it's their straying of which I'm asking, attending to my reasons is not on target and irrelevant. This is getting tedious since you are simply making a claim about a tangentially related topic, and not giving your reasoning as to why it's relevant. So, again, how does my communication actually address the reason of others for their actions? If you want to discuss my reasoning...clarity and all that.... feel free to start a thread on the question of if clarity is a sufficient reason for "straying" from the rules. This thread isn't about that, it's about why others are doing so. I do hope this is clear to you because I don't know any better way to put it.

I am sure the system does it's best and I consider the second question: why does the system allow it, to have been adequately answered for now.

As to the second, "immaturity" seems to be the general consensus. But one does wonder how old one has to be before one realizes the whole thing pretty silly and advertisement of one's immaturity. Around 12 I would think.
