Whispers of Souls first quest

So I am brand new to this game. I probably should learn the ropes before jumping into an event but alas, I did not lol. Anyway, the first quest for whispers of souls is to help a neighbor. Again I’m new, but I have no idea how to do that and the wiki doesn’t go into details on the quests themselves. Help anyone! And if you think I should learn the game first and ignore events for a while, feel free to say so haha.

There is a “Neighborhood” tech in the new chapter 1 tech tree. You might need to unlock that first. I don’t know how new you are. If you don’t have it unlocked yet, you’ll have to show some can-do spirit to get to the end of the tech tree.

If it is unlocked, go to the map, click on a neighboring city you have scouted to and then click the handshake icon (for mobile). On browser, there is a Neighbors tab if you click the provinces icon on the bottom shelf and you can click handshake icon there. Alternatively on browser, you can visit the city you have scouted, wait for it to load, and click the handshake icon and click on a building to help them with something.

Hi, DartWen, welcome to the game and the forum! The only way to complete the quest is as crackie says, to unlock the technology of "neighbors" ... and don't worry; we all jump into the events. It used to be a little easier back when I was new, but just do what you can and don't stress if you get locked out of a quest (which you probably will). Get what you can from the event, anyway, and good luck.

Welcome to Elvenar @DartWen , I think its just rotten
timing joining so close to an event starting. Kudos tho
you found your way here. @Darielle is right, and to me
noone has a good 1st event. Get what you can, if ya can
but expectation wise, treat it as learning what events are
and how thier basic structure works. This game really now
requires getting into Chapter5 to fully experience what
Elvenar has to offer and to play Events fully.

While its still here (lol), us players and the info here in the
forum is at your disposal. Soak as much up as you can,
while ya can..... (hehe) and Keep asking questions. We've
all been there, so we all have tips, but recent conversations
here about the current tech tree ( research tree ) and how
event tasks are either meshing well or not, means you might
run into some roadblocks, where there is no easy fix.

Get to know us, and let us know what world you're in, and
we can get you set up, so that when it becomes available....
getting you into a good, functional Fellowship will be a
walk in the park for you. Then you can really start playing.

Thank you so much! I don’t have Neighborhood unlocked yet. Like, not even close lol. But now I know what to do!
Well...you're not going to like some of the other quests for the event you won't be able to do that's also behind techs, but several chapters ahead. @Taku Subway is a gentleman though, which is probably why he speaks of silver platters. He will prob buy you a drink to commiserate with.

I know. I am a slacker. And here's me expecting event prizes to be handed to me on a silver platter
Silver platters are for people with peerage titles. This is the US market. We don't have those things, or need books about them either.

Also, for what it's worth: in my experience clicking on gold mines on the world map also counts for those quests. However, you probably can't do that until you research Neighborly Help?

I was stuck on the quest "take 3 trades from players" ...no one had any trades even remotely able to take, not even expensive ones. No fellowship members to put up trades for me to take. I asked 5 neighbors if they could put up small trades so that I could take them. But they weren't on when I was, so when they did, someone else took them pretty fast. This went on for hours and I wound up contacting support and asking them how to get trades if there aren't any, and they gave me the standard answer of contact neighbors to see if they'll help. After a few more hours, I wound up taking 3 ridiculous trades (offered 10 or 15 steel, demanded 50 scrolls) just to get through that dang quest. You do what you gotta do sometimes.

I'd kill to have those options when I hit that task.
I made my 1st major misclick on this task.... ever !

I thought I was taking a 1000:1500 deal cause
the person was not a discovered neighbor, uhhhh
it was 1000k not 1000....... oooops, crap....
There goes litterally 500,000 T2, up in smoke.....

Before ppl think I'm a whale, I'm not.... Im CH6
so 500k T2 is I'm guessing 3-4 months of regular
production....... and since RL has turned, I have
retreated into a FS of 1, for the forseeable future.

Thank you @BrinDarby ! This is all very helpful and the game can definitely be overwhelming at first. I’m just plugging away, trying to get to know how everything works, but this forum is invaluable, that’s for sure!

Well, it’s good to know that sometimes my hands might get tied and it’s not something I did wrong. This early in the game, it feels like everything I do is wrong haha

Once you unlock fellowship tech in chapter 2, if you join one and see everyone around you is in the same beginner boat as you...RUN!!!
And then run faster! A good fellowship makes all the difference in the world. Go play for someone that knows what they're doing and can advise you. It's ok you're a beginner. A lot of Archmages don't mind.

@DartWen please, please pay attention to @crackie! I would have liked that post a googolplex of times if I could because it’s that important!

@DartWen , without writing a book , easiest suggestion
is to ignore everything other than getting into CH5,
except getting into a FS where you can get a "loan" to
fund getting to CH5...

Other than productions bldgs, any bldg that shows a
CH in the upper right, once you "claim it", it is frozen in
that chapter unless upgraded using RoyalRestorations, so

Seasons : since it lasts so long, you can wait to "claim"
bldgs until after you go up in CHs. ;) ( sure grab one
or two early, then wait on the rest... cause u can pick/choose )

Halloween Event : save your currency and only spend it
in the last 3 days. check @ idavis, but you want the 3x4
or 4x3 thats pure culture, try and get 2 of them. By then
you might be CH3 and it will be more "worth it". Buy the
lights pkgs in 250 chunks (1x 100 , 1x 150) (digging tools)

Skip all optional researches, you can go back and do later
after you're into CH5. Upgrade your MH when you want
to, not when the game wants you to. Be stingy "placing"
more Land between CH3 and CH5. Why ? we can xplain
that later.

Bottom line : either pay in frustration for 1 month, or pay
in frustration for the next year. get to CH5 1st, then "pause"
and while you pay back loans/start a small stash of resources,
you can get your city upgraded so its all in CH5, and get
your "boost %" levels alot closer to 700%, then start going
again moving thru chapters. If you play this game well uhhh
paycheck/paycheck its just too frustrating.

See that, @Taku Subway? That's some can-do spirit! That's all you need to get to Ancient Wonders in two chapters. :D
I think it's less 'can do' and more 'diamond do' or time. I started a city today and was hamstrung with an hour do to a lack of resources. They seem to have messed with the story quest and its rewards. I'm already tech locked in chapter 1 haha.

Yeah, that was sarcasm. We all needed a few swigs of strong tequila with our can-do spirit after following his adventures in trying to get “help” for his baby city. In his case, he started a new city but wasn’t a new player. Heaven help the new players trying to navigate the game now.
