Advice Sought on Chapter 3 City layout

I'm going to be starting Chapter 3 and I'm looking for advice about city layout and prizes to go for in the current event. I've identified Cozy Farm as one I probably want, but not sure about the others. I'm trying to keep my city small -- trying for a 4x3 expansion layout.

Here is my idea so far -- I'd like to have more resource production and maybe more workshops and a bigger armory, but I think I can eke out with the identified buildings. I'm not that attached to the Voice of the Prophet building and would be happy to turn it in for another building from the current event.

As a longtime player running tiny cities, no AWs,
I think you can safely add 3 more expansions, and
still be ok. Only upgrade MH when it prevents you
from doing something in your city like scouting or
researching. Just cause you can, isn't a good enough
reason yet, nor is those pesky personal tasks, skip'm.
T3 ( gems for you ) won't be need'd till CH5, so I'd
sell that off and add more T1/T2. If for any reason
you need some T3, just sell some T1/T2 for it.

This Event is perfect for getting you a couple good
culture only 3x3s. They are Not daily prizes, but those
extra prizes on some boards. If you also want the Daily
prize that day, you're getting a 2-fer even if you have
to clear the whole board, but Event culture is sooo
much better than stuff you can just build, by far. Because
you want to stay tiny, I doubt you can use another one
of those CozyFarms.

Below I did add the 3 expansions, and left you specific
space for some upgrades and more of stuff like.....
Housing/workshops/T1/T2. I also add'd (3) 3x3s to
show where I'd put them. I was pretty stingy on using
roads, I think..... lol.

@Meadowlark ,
If you plan to put out "TheHive" set ( and I would if
I were you ), you might not get much more else add'd
but there is even room to shoehorn it in.

One thing to think about Meadowlark, in the modern
era of Elvenar, its all about getting into CH5 and
opening up Spire along with having Tourn open and
be'n in a fellowship, as a starting point foundation.

Because RRs now have other (grrr) uses, most event
bldgs will be "replaceable" below CH5. This event's
set offers S.Frags if you get thru Task #62 and hit 180
or more Event points. You can miss the last bldg at
260 and still get the frags. Even if you never upgrade
it, its still a "keeper" longterm because of the xtra Frags.

I look'd back and before the force migration, 2 of my
cities were park'd in CH3 with 24 expansions as listed
on ElvenStats, 1 of which was premium. That got me
room for some Event stuff, (6) T2 & (8) T1 and from
there got me all the way thru CH5 with no xtra Land
add'd. As a target, I'm estimating a total of 32-34
expansions to get thru CH6 and have room for the
guest race bldgs. 20-24 should be enough to get
thru CH5 comfortably.

I always play the GrandPrize only strategy, and only
play on days I'm ok with the daily prize if I win a few.
The current event lends itself to a slightly different
strategy compared to most other ones. Rather than
using Alot of currency on 3-4 days, its better to try
and play as many days as currency allows. You're
trying to pick off the x2/x3/x4's and perhaps the
daily prize or other good prizes, then stop for that
board. Giving yourself as many chances for those
x2/x3/x4 tiles as possible. Any way ya do it, you'll
win far more bldgs that you can ever place..... lol

Each event I check iDavis for the stats on the event
bldgs. Every player will need different things. It does
matter alot how they plan to play as to which bldgs
do them the best help. Early CH players can't go
wrong with good culture only bldgs & even a couple
cul/pop bldgs
. Personal preference will determine
what other bldgs to keep, like ones that give troops
or stuff thats hard to get any other way like SFs/CCs.

We can always help you play city tetris, but your own
playstyle will determine, usually, which Event bldgs
you go after and how much Land you do/don't add.

What do you want to do with this village? If the target is known, we may be able to help better.

My overall strategy is to grow very slowly and hoard a lot of resources along the way. I want to have the capability to go to the top of the spire and score 2k or more in the tournament consistently. I want to rely on having a few high-level buildings in a compact space while still having some area available for low-level buildings for events and FAs. I work full time but have some flexibility in working from home, so 4-5 days a week I'm able to collect multiple times during the day; therefore I can get away with having fewer factories and workshops and a lower-level barracks and fewer armories than average. In general I like to plan a city layout that I can "grow into" over the course of a chapter.

I use a mixed approach of catering and fighting. I basically fight until my losses using the Autofight option get too big and then I cater.

I belong to a fellowship that is very helpful in terms of neighborly help, so I can usually count on having my culture buildings polished regularly.

Because Inno tweak'd Ch1-5, I'll readjust my
guess to 24-26 expansions to get into/thru CH5
and do all you want to do. I wish you luck on
doing it with less if you try. The real "hoarding"
begins when you "pause" research/progression,
once you open Spire, while optimizing your city.
The faster you get to that point, the more stuff
you Don't win from an earlier CH that would
need RRs to upgrade.

TheHive set, in the current event, is need'd for
the S.Frags, other than that.... you're trying to
win bldgs to help you to get to CH5, which
then can just be replaced. (keep TheHive tho)

I only say this cause you might rethink your cap
@ 4x3 (12 exp) to say 16-18 atleast, knowing
you'll still need a couple more once you open
Spire at CH5. If you're gonna need it anyway,
might as well make life easier now with more
land. ;)

Saw you add'd another expansion, to your max 12.
Sure you will need more Culture, but as workshops
and residences get 1 bigger ( 4x3 3x3 ) everything
still fits in the same place with little moving around.
Your Orig post's example was with upgrades so this
might be helpfull.... or not....

It keeps the barracks in a place easily upgraded (bigger)
and room close by for training grounds, if you want it.
Not sure you can get alot more manufacturing if you
also add armories, but there's xtra pop, so you could
dump 1-2 of those residences as you're building up.

If you move that 1 bigger workshop, there's instant
room for CozyFarm, not so much tho for TheHive also.

Oh Wise One
@Meadowlark With regard to the early chapters, I would pay close attention to what @BrinDarby says. He is without question the best player for maximizing the efficiency of low chapter cities. I've never pursued the strategy of parking a city early in the game and optimizing it. He has, and he had done very well with it.

@Henroo, @BrinDarby has given me a lot of excellent advice I'm still chewing on. I'm plowing through the current event to get a few event buildings. Based on Brin's advice, I plan to expand my city to 4x4 in preparation for chapter 4, then tournament my way to chapter 5 and the Spire while trying to keep my city that size. We'll see if I can manage! I won't be able to get the full Hive set, but I'm trying to get to quest 62 and get enough of the buildings to have 5 total set buildings and maximize spell fragment yield.
