Chef - loquacious Old Dog
Once the Archmage is gone a fellowship can often fade into nothing without recourse except to contact support-- which they might or might not know can be done. Why not avoid that and let the AM designate a "backup" AM. The backup AM kicks in after X amount of days the AM is gone and has all the rights of the AM at that point. In fact, why not just have the AM change to the backup AM automatically after the number of days the original AM is gone and then send a message to the new AM reminding them to pick a backup AM?
Here's how it might work.
In the pull down list positions: AM, Mage, Ambassador, Fellow, you add, "Backup AM" Once the AM designates that person you could then have a box pop asking how many days of absence before the switch is automatic? 30 - 60 perhaps would be a good range. Then the countdown starts.
Advantages:
No need to call support unless both the AM and the Backup AM since the fellowship knows when the AM will be automatically replaced and so on.
Coding of the interface should be easy, though the countdown might take some work.
Players stick around in fellowships that are mostly active rather than bolting because the AM has gone AWOL.
Disadvantages:
Just the coding to get it done.
Perhaps, some "jealousy" over who gets to be "backup AM?" (Yeah, I can imagine once in a blue moon somebody leaving in a huff over not being picked, sigh.)
