In a suggestion for a distant future version, have the construction/upgrade function be a complete mini-game, with the player able to devote extra or fewer resources (materials, supplies, coin) as well as number of builders, in order to optimize their construction time.
In one example, an upgrade that takes 4 hours and costs 5000 coin and 2000 marble might be adjusted (via a series of sliders) to require only 4000 coin and 1900 marble, but take 9 hours, so it could be run overnight, or 8000 coin and 2400 marble in order to be complete in 3 hours, or add a second builder and the extra mats to finish in 2.
