Can't give help or join Fellowship

I just started playing and I can't give neighborly help or join a fellowship. The buttons for them under my portrait are just not there. Also when I go to the world map and click on another player's city nothing happens. I tried making cities on a few servers and all have the same problem.

Look at your research tree and you will see that you have to complete research first before you can do either.

No problem. This was part of several changes a few months ago to the research tree for new cities. You will also have to research the tournament and Spire and Fellowship Adventures before you can participate in them. And crafting in the Magic Academy has it's own research now too.

Thank you. I played ages ago so that explains my confusion since these things weren't in at the time. I guess going forward if something seems missing I'll check the research tree first
