To grow the crops on the farmland, I think.

You use it to make and upgrade the fields. There are 4 levels to Halfling fields. Lv 1 fields make grain. Lv 2 make carrots. Lv3 make pumkins. Lv4 make apples. You will need all of these to make the guest race goods. But there is no way to undo an upgrade to a field short of selling it and starting over with a grain field. So plan your upgrades carefully.
