Seems like a well thought out post full disclaimer i didn't read it all...
But, your point about early in the game the supplies are way to limited and it's way to slow at the start.

My suggestion would be simply make the early quest rewards greater so that you don't hit a wall early.

Interesting ideas. I'll put this thread on the watchlist since I'm short on time now, but I'll give it some thought and come up with some more suggestions later
