Spire - exactly what IS the join time to qualify for team play?

I switched fellowships this morning, at least 2 hours prior to the spire appearing. Yet I get the lock and message I have to wait til next time.
The window is only about 18 hours as is, so when exactly do you have to join to qualify for the next spire?
or do you ALWAYS have to miss a week?

Actually, the window starts from Friday's close. Not from when the tourney ends

but realistically you arent going to jump ship before the tourney ends and you get your rewards, so you have less than 24 hours

If you join after tourney and before new Spire but still get a msg about not being able to participate, it's a cache issue. Just refresh or log out and back in (not actually leave the FS, log out of the account).
